FOLLOWING JESUS TO THE UPPER ROOM
MEMORY VERSE: And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Mathew, James the son of Aphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James. – Acts 1:13
TEXT: Acts 1:12-26, Acts 2:1-4, Luke 22:7-16
INTRODUCTION
The upper room could be likened to a place where one stands, sits or is positioned to see, hear, access or receive what others who are in the valley or plain ground can’t receive from God. The upper room could be like a mountain where God meets with man. (Exodus 19:3, Exodus 3:1, Exodus 34:1-4). It is a place of deep interaction, conversation with God. It is a place of empowerment (Acts 2:2-4). The upper room probably could be the place where Jesus carefully selected to eat the Passover with his disciples, (Luke 22:10-11). The upper room is the same venue which the disciples resorted to, after the Ascension of Christ.
In this Context, here comes the ultimate question:In the absence of your leader or motivator (Spiritually), do you follow Jesus to the upper room? Do you say; This is where I hang my faith. I will not continue this journey of the Christian faith. Maybe you are that type of Christian. But as for the disciples, after the ascension they went back immediately to the upper room by the commandment of the Master not to depart from Jerusalem (Acts 1:4).
FOLLOWING TO UPPER ROOM WILL GIVE YOU A NEW LANGUAGE
Acts 2:4… And they were all 𝑓illed with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the spirit gave them utterance.
There are some of us that were not very good when it comes to expression (communication) before giving our lives to Christ. Especially, because of our humble background, not because of lack of intelligence. But it’s because of nature. But the story has changed. These could only be the Holy Ghost, the upper room experience. So, it is worthy of acceptance that if you follow Jesus to the upper room, he will change your language. He will lose your tongue from the chains of Satan. Only go with him to the upper room.
FOLLOWING JESUS TO THE UPPER ROOM WILL REVEAL THE WONDERFUL WORKS OF GOD
Acts 2:11…Cretans and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.
FOLLOWING TO THE UPPER ROOM CAUSES ATTRACTION FOR THE WORLD TO BE DRAWN TO CHRIST
Acts 2:6…Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.
THE UPPER ROOM EXPERIENCE TURNED NONENTITIES TO WORLD SHAKERS (ACTS 2:16-38, ACTS 4:13)
Act 4:13…Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled’; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.
FOLLOWING JESUS TO THE UPPER ROOM, FULFILMENT OF PROPHECY IS ASCERTAIN (ACTS 2:16-21, JOEL 2:28-32)
Act 2:16…But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; Act 2:17…And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: Act 2:18… And on my servants and on my handmaidens, I will pour out in those days of my spirit; and they shall prophesy: Act 2:19…And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke: Act 2:20…The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come: Act 2:21…And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
CONCLUSION
It is in following Jesus to the upper room that your language will be changed. By this act, the world will see the wonderful works of God through you. And you will not be or remain a nonentity in Jesus’ name Amen.
